How do I save a Reddit thread to NotebookLM?

Install RedClip from the Chrome Web Store, open any thread on reddit.com or old.reddit.com, and click the RedClip icon. Pick a capture mode — whole thread, top comments, an upvote threshold, or post only — choose which NotebookLM notebook to send it to, and click "Save to NotebookLM." The thread lands as a new source you can immediately ask questions about.

Can NotebookLM read Reddit threads directly, without an extension?

No. If you paste a Reddit URL straight into NotebookLM, it typically returns an empty source or just the post title — Reddit blocks the crawlers that NotebookLM (and Claude, and ChatGPT) rely on to fetch a page. RedClip gets around this by running inside your own browser session, where you're already logged in and the page is already rendered, then sending the full thread to NotebookLM as a source.

How do I save just the comments from a Reddit thread to NotebookLM?

Open the thread and click RedClip, then choose Top 10 Comments, Top 20 Comments, or Minimum Upvotes if you only want the highest-signal replies, or Complete Discussion if you want every comment (up to 500) including nested replies. There's also Post Only if you want to exclude comments entirely.

Does it really work with old.reddit.com?

Yes. Both old.reddit.com and the current default Reddit interface (www.reddit.com) are fully supported. The extension detects which layout you're on and adapts.

Why can't I just paste the Reddit URL into NotebookLM?

You can try. It usually returns an empty source or just the post title — Reddit blocks the crawlers NotebookLM (and Claude, and ChatGPT) use. RedClip works around that by running in your browser session, where you already have access. So the full thread — comments included — actually lands.

Does the full comment tree really get saved, including nested replies?

Yes — nested, threaded, with usernames, upvote counts, and the hierarchical structure preserved. RedClip expands collapsed and "load more" branches before capture so you don't lose the 200th comment that mattered.

Can I switch between Google accounts (personal, work, client)?

Yes. RedClip detects every Google account signed into your browser and lets you pick the NotebookLM destination. This works on all plans, including the free tier.

Is my Reddit data sent to your servers?

No. RedClip runs entirely in your browser. It uses your existing Reddit session to read the page and your existing Google session to push to NotebookLM. We never see thread content. The only thing our servers know about is whether your account is valid and your daily usage count.

What about ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini? Why NotebookLM?

NotebookLM is the only chatbot built around source-grounded answers — it cites the exact thread and comment your insight came from. If you do want to use Claude or ChatGPT, RedClip also gives you clean Markdown you can download or copy. Both work. NotebookLM is just where the citations stay honest.

What does the upvote threshold filter actually do?

You set a number. RedClip walks the comment tree and captures only comments scoring at or above your threshold. Use it on big threads (500+ comments) to keep the noise out and the signal in.

What capture modes are available?

Four modes: Complete Discussion (entire thread up to 500 comments), Top 10 or Top 20 Comments (highest-voted only), Minimum Upvotes (set a threshold, only comments above it), and Post Only (no comments). The default is Top 10 Comments.

Can I also export as Markdown instead of sending to NotebookLM?

Yes. Every capture can be downloaded as a .md file or copied to your clipboard as clean Markdown. Use it with Obsidian, Claude, ChatGPT, or any tool that accepts Markdown.

Is there a free plan?
